Cycle to Farm By the Numbers. Cycle to Farm ® was created by Jennifer Billstrom in 2011, and first held in Black Mountain, North Carolina in 2012. The concept was simple: beautiful route, challenging riding (62 miles and 5,000ft+ of climbing), local farmers offering tasty samples, and a small “tailgate market” at each farm with purchases by cyclists transported back to the Finish by vehicle.

Just stumbled on this cute video of the Cycle To Farm Black Mountain parking/setup volunteers celebrating the start of the event. Sure wish they could return to help out at Sandy Mush but they have moved on from summer camp at Camp Rockmont to their normal school day lives.

63 miles through beautiful Western North Carolina on (mostly) low-traffic roads. Challenging climbing (scale the Continental Divide at least twice!). Approximate total elevation gain 5,200 feet. Almost all rural farm and forest. Local Farms host each rest stops at their farms. Great bike food at the rest stops (bagels, bananas, PB&J, etc).
