The MvRadA model shows L1 and L2 (residues 257-279) lie side by side in close proximity to the helical axis . Such a spatial arrangement implies that a DNA substrate at the helical axis interacts with both L1 and L2, and that both loops interact directly with each other in the active recombinase filament.
